The Mural Sponsorship Program is a beautification program for the Homewood METRA pedestrian tunnel, administered by the Rail Committee. The program combines the appreciation and cultivation of public art, celebration of the railway, and promotion of local businesses.

Students from the AP (Advanced Placement) Studio Art program at Homewood Flossmoor High School have created one-of-a-kind designs depicting historical Homewood landmarks to be reproduced into 3’ x 5’ full color panels. The panels will be mounted behind protective plexiglass and hung throughout the METRA tunnel to provide commuters with an eye-pleasing passageway into beautiful downtown Homewood.

The H-F students reviewed historic photos of Homewood landmarks provided by Historical Society President Jim Wright. AP Studio Art Instructor Greg Petecki had students choose an image they wanted to work with, and then had them depict the historic site using their own personal style and media.

“I am excited to share our students’ artwork with the community. On behalf of the Homewood-Flossmoor High School Art Department, I would like to thank everyone for letting us be a part of this exciting endeavor,” says Melissa Sauders, Project Coordinator.

There are currently 20 one-of-a-kind mural designs available for sponsorship by local businesses. The sponsorship term is two years and offers businesses a unique advertising opportunity while enhancing the appearance of the METRA tunnel.

The mural designs are on a first-come-first-serve basis. For businesses interested in participating in this program, fill out the Homewood Rail Committee Sponsorship Agreement and call Community Information Coordinator Rachael Jones at 206-3375.
